About Us

The station was built as a “Institute of Algological Research” belonging to the School of Science, Hokkaido University in 1933, We have continued the algal researches and education about marine seaweeds more than 80 years.

About Us

Based on the fundamental culture skills established by great alumni, we study about morphology, cell biology and developmental biology of brown algae in recent years. Please find our research subjects here. Our facilities are mainly arranged for culture, cytology, physiology and molecular biology. We also have accommodation to support your stay and there are some hotels, restaurants and shops around the station.

 

Research facilities

Clean Room, Culture Chambers (flexible to temperature and day length), Culture rooms (10℃ 15℃), Library, Wet lab, P1 lab, Transmission Electron Microscope, UltraMicrotomes, Fluorescence microscopes, Inverted microscopes, Light microscopes, Stereo microscopes, Thermal cyclers, Realtime PCR, Electrophoresis tools, Micromanipulator, Spectrophotometer, Ultrasonic homogenizer, etc.
